Purpose:

Coordinate and to be a voice for the perspectives of the ISBER membership and the Society on policy issues related to biological and environmental repositories. Activities include communicating with the membership on emerging science policy issues, providing analysis of policies and regulations that may affect the biorepository community, and sharing information on emerging global policy issues related to biorepositories. Information sharing may include collaboration with other allied individuals or groups, such as BBMRI-ERIC, Public Responsibility in Medicine and Research (PRIM&R), the Research, Development, and Regulatory Roundtable (R3), and other groups with common interests on specific policy issues or topics.

Policy statements and projects the CoP undertakes may stem from the interests of CoP members or are developed in response to requests for public comment through formal or informal rule-making or policy development processes.

The Standards CoP serves as an advisory group that provides biobanking expertise on behalf of ISBER to establish consistent biobanking standards and brings groups with different knowledge perspectives together to harness collective intelligence regarding biobanking standards.

Goals:

  1. Work for and with the ISBER Membership and Biobanking community in the development of knowledge products related to biobanking standard.
  2. Develop and market the fifth edition of the Best Practices to be disseminated globally.
  3. Develop and market tools to aid the implementation of the Best Practices, such as the Biobank Assessment Tool (BAT), the Internal Audit Tool (IAT).
  4. Develop and market the Qualification in Biorepository Science (QBRS) exam.
  5. Facilitate ISBER input into ISO TC276 – WG2 Biobanking.
  6. Organize educational and feedback mechanisms for bi-directional communication with the affiliate members, ISBER members and Biobanking community.
