ISBER Names Editor-in-Chief of Best Practices, Fifth Edition

The International Society for Biological and Environmental Repositories (ISBER) is pleased to announce that Ms. Emma Snapes has been appointed as the Editor-in-Chief of the ISBER Best Practices, Fifth Edition. 

ISBER Best Practices: Recommendations for Repositories is a guidance document that reflects the collective experience of ISBER members and has broad input from repository leaders. Throughout the document, effective practices are presented for the management of specimen collections and repositories. The ISBER Best Practices reflect advances in research and technology. 

“We are fortunate to have someone of Ms. Emma Snapes’ calibre and experience take on the Editor-in-Chief role,” said Dr. Daniel Simeon Dubach, Chair of ISBER Standards Committee. “We are confident that under her leadership the next edition of the ISBER Best Practices will help biobankers in years to come with their operations and practices to ensure the highest quality biobanking.”

A biobanking consultant, Ms. Snapes has over 20 years of experience in the creation and management of biological and data collections for biobanks with human subjects as well as microbial and animal collections within and across clinical, academic, semi-state and commercial sectors. An award-winning expert in ISO biobanking standard documentation development, Ms. Snapes is solution-focused and passionate about engaging with others to promote best practices in the biobanking sector. 

“The ISBER Best Practices is one of our most important assets,” said President Piper Mullins. “It is a foundational document that provides guidance and direction to biobanking practice. We are eager for a new edition that addresses the new realities and needs of today’s Biobanking community.” 

Over the course of 2022, Ms. Emma Snapes will work to produce the next edition of the ISBER Best Practices. Key leaders from the global Biobanking community will be called upon to contribute to and review the content to develop this consensus document.
