Asterand-ISBER Biospecimen Science Poster Awards

Supported by
Asterand

The Asterand-ISBER Biospecimen Science Poster Awards recognize excellence in poster presentations on Biospecimen Science. The mission of the Biospecimen Science Poster Award Program is to encourage ISBER members and all attendees of the annual meeting to ask important original questions about biospecimen science, to design sound, controlled experiments with a clear rationale, and to present the results clearly in a poster format. Asterand has provided an unrestricted educational grant to ISBER to fund poster awards at the ISBER Annual Meeting. Award winning posters will be selected by an Awards Subcommittee of the ISBER Program Committee; Asterand will have no influence on the selection of the awardees. The award, which includes a stipend, will be presented to the first author of the poster at the ISBER Business/Awards Session of the Annual Meeting.

Eligibility:

1. Abstracts submitted to ALL topic categories are eligible as long as the scientific content is relevant to Biospecimen Science. It is NOT necessary that the abstract is programmed in the Biospecimen Science Topic Category.

2. The first author of the abstract must specifically apply online to be considered for the award. If the first author of the abstract will NOT be present at the Annual Meeting, a surrogate author MUST be designated on the award application form. Have your abstract assigned number and the title of your abstract available to complete the application form.

3. The first (or designated surrogate) author MUST be present at the Awards Session or the award will be forfeited and a runner-up will be selected. In the absence of the first author, the award will be presented to the designated surrogate (presenting author).

4. The Awards Committee will use the following criteria to judge excellence:

• Originality: The work presented should constitute a new and original contribution to methods, results or general analysis of the considered scientific question. For studies that involve a methods comparison, the work should include a rigorous and thoughtful analysis of the clinical or scientific context of the technology.

• Significance: The described research or analysis should address a problem that is important to the field of Biospecimen Science.

• Focus: The scientific question(s) the investigator has addressed should be clear and the rationale for the described experimentation or analysis must be appropriately focused.

• Experimental design and control: Experiments should be well designed and controlled and data rigorously and appropriately analyzed.

• Presentation: The poster presentations must be well organized and the work and its conclusions presented in a clearly understandable and compelling manner.
